“I could tell you my adventures—beginning from this morning,” said Alice a little timidly; “but it’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.”

The above quote has really stuck with me over the years, as it touches on a nerve of thought that I’ve come to experience in my life. Self-employment and the benefit of benefit of proper perspective have made me realize that we can be who we want to be and experience a life that we architect and paint ourselves.

A little-known fact about the Sistine Chapel is the oh-so-famous ceiling was completed via a process called “Pouncing” where one draws a design on a piece of thin paper, poking holes in the lines and then placing small marks on the actual canvas, to be filled in with detail by the artist.

[tweetable]One can’t create a masterpiece if they aren’t willing to pick up the brush.[/tweetable] Otherwise, you’re simply left with meaningless dots that could have been something great.

Making the decision to see a counsellor and discuss some of the things inside of me that I keep locked away was one of the best decisions of my life. If I were to have been carrying a hemorrhaging wound and refused treatment, one would think me the fool. Our past experiences, mental health, and perspective on the outside world can also be a serious wound that we often miss because white carpets don’t get stained when we walk on them.

When you fight, the best way to not get hit is to simply not be where your opponent’s fist decides to go. One doesn’t need a brash turnaround or jerky action; you simply need to be a few inches away from the first hitting your face.

In my own life, I’ve been surrounded by amazing people, friends, and family. These people have been a rock of support for me as I’ve been all over the country and world. Yet, there was a deep part of me that didn’t want to connect and branch out to meet new people; feeling as if my ‘quota’ of good people was already full. Thus, my life here in TX has been fairly devoid of quality people that I can see on a regular basis.

When I moved to my new apartment, in November, I decided that things were going to change and adapt. I started to put down ‘to do’ items on my list of personal development. As time has gone by, each and every one of these items is getting checked off and happening as I choose to take control of my circumstances, relationships, and personal happiness.

Your life is your own. Nobody else should tell you how to think for yourself or what it is that they think will make you happier than that it is you think will. I am. I think. I will. I love. I live.
