Entrepreneur State of Mind

SCROLL

I recently read a blog (link) that focused on the topic of entrepreneurship. Knowing the author – and being the subject – the article really resonated with me.

The recent pause in writing has been partly due to the fact that I’ve spent much more time observing – and internally processing – than I spend writing my thoughts down.

Looking back, I think a lot about the moments in my life where I relished in the self-employment lifestyle; it brought a lot of freedom that isn’t usually found in the traditional j-o-b environment. For example, I used to enjoy the benefit of being able to do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, with whomever I wanted. That’s the supposed definition of freedom.

However, that’s not the purpose of this blog. We’ll deal with the idea of misappropriated hooky mentality at a later date.

Entrepreneurship isn’t an occupation. It’s a state of mind.

I know a lot of individuals who work within a company (having a job) that have more entrepreneurial traits that many ‘entreps’ I know.

So, what’s the difference?

Sometimes, people misappropriate entrepreneurship as simply being self-employed. Thus, they’ll leave a job where they have a guaranteed paycheck in order to become their own boss, doing the same job, oftentimes for significantly less than they were making (financially) before they became their own boss.

I’m of the mindset that entrepreneurship is the ability to see things differently than those around you, and being able to execute these concepts into reality. Anybody can have ideas. Very few people can execute.

Winding down – as it’s nearly 5pm – I’m deeply appreciative of the time in self-employment I’ve been able to enjoy, while also being able to leverage that into outstanding employment at an incredible company in CA. No day is the same.
