O Freedom

“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless–it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.”

Heavenly Father,

Today is another day You have given. Thank you for allowing a new day of opportunity, relationship with others, and the pleasure gained from seeing the beautiful creation that has been so intelligently and beautifully laid out for us to live in. You have truly given us too much, I feel. And it is with a renewed sense of humility that I see the world we live in; as my understanding of you increases, I realize just how little and insignificant we really are in the grand scheme of things. It is not about us.

Be with us today as we again trod through the desolate plains of this world, often blindly searching for something we can never find on our own. Remind us that our happiness is not found in things of this world, nor within ourselves, but that it can only come from complete and total satisfaction in you.

Remind us to forgive those who have sinned against us. To forgive others is inherent to your character. May we learn to be more like you in this regard; forgiving all – not just those we feel “ready” to forgive.

Remind our hearts that they must find satisfaction in you and you alone. We cannot find eternal – or even temporary – genuine satisfaction in those around us, as the love we may experience is only a shadow of the substancial love you have for your children.

LORD, today is the day you have made. Thank you for creating it, orchestrating its happenings, and giving us the opportunity to live it. May we draw closer to you today than we were yesterday, while being distant from where we will be in you tomorrow.

Thank you for sending your only Son to die for the price of our sins. We have not – and never will – be deserving of this display of selfless love. Remind us of the cost of our sins, as we so freely engage and participate in the very acts that put your Son on the torturous cross to pay the price of the world.

May you grant us a greater understanding of what true Love is, so that we may fully realize what it is we are saying when we proclaim our Love to you, and that we may more fully understand the unmeasurable Love you have for your children.

Your Son,

Aaron Plaat
