Awake

SCROLL

I woke up.

More than any other quote, I’ve repeated the quote from Alice In Wonderland (I could tell you of my adventures…) more than any other quote on my blog. Just shy, perhaps, of the “Tunnel Song” from Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory. Both of these quotes have a significance in my life every time they are mentioned.

Since college, a revolving theme in my life has been “Wake up, Plaat.” spawned from an infamous assignment written in English 230; Creative Non-Fiction, titled “Wake Up” which chronicled the life of an 18 year-old young man living in a fraternity house. Me. It was a bit of a turbulent story, to say the least. The overwhelming theme in my life has been one of a journey that continues to take twists and turns along the way.

Sometimes this journey doesn’t lead us where we want to go. Other times, it will present us with an unexpected gift or pleasant experience. I’ve realized it’s quite similar to a sailboat in the wind. Even facing direct opposition from the wind, one can steer a sailboat into the wind and go the direction they please. Tacking.

At some point in the last 5 years, I got knocked down from my position at the wheel of my life. It could have happened in small steps or one large swing. I’m unsure. However, when I decided to make an intentional decision about getting back in the captain’s seat of my life, I wasn’t expecting the universe to grant such a slew of blessings in such a short amount of time.

Given that my attention span could be measured in microns, it seems to have only made sense that the results of my mental focus would happen so quickly. It enabled me to have a very concise before/after snapshot look at my life.

I’ve never been happier. Ever.
