Epic

SCROLL

This morning, I sat down to read the book Epic, a book about the journey of life and our internal desire to be a part of something greater. One of my favorite quotes referenced The Magician’s Nephew as the characters witnessed the forming of the stars.

“Glory be! I’d ha’ been a better man all my life if I’d known there were things like this.”

It’s hard not to have that attitude when I look at the outside world. However, we tend to put on our sunglasses to shield us from the bright sky, when we really ought to take a step back and appreciate its beauty.

I don’t believe that beauty is limited to just nature. It’s also found within us. In China, I spoke to several thousand students, telling them to take their thumb and smudge a window if they ever felt insignificant or lost. Last night, I smudged my watch and had to remind myself that there’s a plan and a purpose behind every step of life, no matter how difficult or painful.

One day at a time.
