Every mat begins as one of my paintings. Vegan suede, made to order, and non-slip — even when you glisten. The rest of this site lives in the dark of the studio. This room is where the light comes in.
The full painting is 24×36. The mat is a 24×68 walk through it — slide the window and watch the cut change.
“I started creating yoga mats because I found my first one plain and uninspiring. Adding artwork transformed not just the mats — but my entire practice. — Aaron Plaat
It started with a mat that said nothing. Sixty-eight inches of beige, staring back every morning. So I did what I always do with a blank surface — I painted it.
The first time I practiced on my own work, the whole ritual changed. The mat stopped being equipment and became a place. Now every design starts as a full painting in the studio, and each mat is printed to order — nobody else's morning looks like yours.
Yoga gives you a fixed point to steady the eyes. A painting gives you one worth coming back to — a ribbon of color to follow when the pose gets loud.
The practice starts before the first pose. Unrolling a piece of art tells your body this hour is different from the rest of the day.
One object can shift a whole space. Lay color and motion on the floor and the practice room stops being a corner of the living room.
Twelve originals live in the shop right now — Burning Love, Starburst, Ouroborus, Wind, and friends. The nine above join them soon.
