Mother’s love

SCROLL

I remember a line from the movie The Bucket List, a tale about two men with terminal cancer, which made me pause. One of the wishes of the dying men was to “see something majestic” before he died.

In my adult years, I bore witness to many ‘majestic’ sights; rolling mountains in Laos, sunrises over the hills of Oakland, and indescribable sights found on the playa at Burning Man, to name a few.

Of these experiences, none can top the beauty of a Mother’s heart for her children. Specifically, I revere the love, care, and attention given from my Mother to her six children. I’ve found a new appreciation for the sacrifices my Mother made in order to give her children an incredible life.

You’d never find her at the nail or hair salon, pampering herself. Rather, she spent her waking moments making sure her family was provided for, well fed, and prayed over.

Mom made it a point to ensure her children were well educated, trained in musical performance, and appreciated for their individual talents, abilities, and personality.

What makes Roberta Plaat the rarest of women is that she loves unconditionally. No matter the circumstance, Mom always finds it in her heart to respond with love, care, and patience.

Her greatest treasure can’t be found in a house, bank account, or diamond ring, nor is that where she finds her identity. Rather, she gave of herself to give (natural) birth to six children.

Of all the wonders of the world, none can compare to the richness of a mother’s love for her children.

Thanks, Mom…for everything.
