Letting go

SCROLL

“I wonder if I’ve been changed in the night. Let me think. Was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I’m not the same, the next question is ‘Who in the world am I?’ Ah, that’s the great puzzle!”

It is a pleasant change to [finally] insert a new quote from Alice In Wonderland, after nearly ten years of repeating my old favorite about the adventures of yesterday. I think (permission to talk, received) the last few years of my life have been a remarkable adventure that seems to grow more interesting with each passing day.

Somebody recently asked me to pen down some of my thoughts after spending a month in the country of Uruguay. Frankly, I wouldn’t know where to begin. This adventure seems to be only one element in a series of life changes that have amounted to a life I can only reflect upon with gratitude.

During a recent conversation with Steve, he shared some thoughts that struck me.

“Aaron, you don’t need to fix anything. You don’t need to feel as if you need to arrive at a new place in life in order to feel whole, or complete.”

This was a reminder of the importance of having unconditional love. It must be present, first, in your own life, before you’re capable of giving it to others.

I remember a time in my life where I stood in front of my mirror, citing affirmations about my character, personality, and spirit. At the time, it seemed to prop me up from a disheveled countenance and lack of confidence. Affirmations are incredible – do them. At that point of my life, it took recitation to pull myself out of a dark pit I had fallen into.

It was Steve, again, that spoke something softly that cemented these affirmations in place; transforming them from a question, to grounded character.

“You’re more than enough.”

It isn’t necessary to travel to a distant country to find yourself. You can find yourself exactly where you are, as you are. Nothing needs to change. Your presence is your passport.

Now, go explore. The world needs authentic human beings far more than it needs politics. Nobody can rob you of your joy without your consent.

Darkness will never, ever overcome the light.
