SCROLL

A man told me once that all the bad people
Were needed. Maybe not all, but your fingernails
You need; they are really claws, and we know
Claws. The sharks—what about them?
They make other fish swim faster. The hard-faced men
In black coats who chase you for hours
In dreams—that’s the only way to get you
To the shore. Sometimes those hard women
Who abandon you get you to say, “You.”
A lazy part of us is like a tumbleweed.
It doesn’t move on its own. Sometimes it takes
A lot of Depression to get tumbleweeds moving.
Then they blow across three or four States.
This man told me that things work together.
Bad handwriting sometimes leads to new ideas;
And a careless god—who refuses to let people
Eat from the Tree of Knowledge—can lead
To books, and eventually to us. We write
Poems with lies in them, but they help a little.”

Dreams. Dreams. Dreams. I’ve been fortunate enough to have vivid dreams that make me think twice about their happenings when I wake up. Last night, it was encountering a bad business partner who left me on the hook for an office lease. In the dream, I looked at him and shook my head…leaving him trying to win me over by throwing big words and flashy things at me. Integrity and honesty is a price far more expensive than any Porsche – and much more impressive to those who possess it. Keep the keys, JP.

I’ve been presented with some incredible opportunities in the recent weeks, which have made me do a serious gut check about the way I’ve lived my life up until this point. There’s a serious price to pay when you want to pursue your dreams, and I believe in intelligent sacrifice required to pursue these goals.

One thing I respected most about my Dad is that he was capable of ‘having it all’. While he didn’t ever reach a position of wealth – in fact, he was far from it – he was able to balance a lot of situations that would cripple or bury many less capable of handling such a load. Perhaps he was crippled by it more than I know. I don’t know.

Being on a new diet, I’ve been fortunate to see immediate results in the way I look, feel, and focus. Such a dramatic turnaround in <10 days time is something that shouldn’t be shirked or taken for granted.

I look at my life and see the fruits of labor all around me. In fact, one of them is the computer I’m writing this blog on now. 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 iMac. Edifier e10 Exclaim speakers. Dyson fan(s). Beautiful workstation. TripleSkinny t-shirt.

However, these things are merely items that were purchased. They’re little more than indicators of the fact that my life has blessed me with a mind and skill set that can set out to accomplish things – and then do it.

Watching the simple action of brushing hair/teeth and feeling my heart swell beyond what I thought it capable of. It is a feeling that can’t be expressed; urging the desire to beam with joy, flash a smile, shed a tear, sit in deep appreciation…move the the world and lasso the moon.

For years, I’ve stated that I don’t just want to breathe my way through life and survive day by day; but to live.

I’m living and it is good.
