The Greeks believed the underworld; the land of the dead, to be ruled by the god “Hades”, which eventually became the name of the location, itself.
When I began painting, I started to see many expressions of my Dad emerge through the artwork.
On the right side of this piece, you can see a silhouette. This represents my Dad, and the void of his presence in my life.
on the left side, you see a man hunched over in pain. To his right, another figure lifts its hand to its mouth, as gold and blue fall.
Two characters are represented to show both sides of my heart. One side is broken and doing its best to heal. The other side attempts to mask the pain, though it only causes parts of himself to be lost (shown in blue).
Both characters walk the path that leads to death, as all humans do.
It’s a healing process, where I reflect back on his memories while creating each piece. however, not all of the reflections bring back positive memories – or joy in the present moment.
Behind every stroke is a young man who misses his Dad.
