Allbirds

SCROLL

It’s been a while since I’ve written a product review/suggestion. This is related to the ceasing of my old binge-purchase habits through Amazon. It’s been a few years since I crossed the 350+ orders per year threshold.

Nowadays, I look for products and services that solve immediate problems in my life, with simple designs, pricing, and function. Sometimes you find multiple solutions for the same problem. E.g. I use a rechargeable electric fan to stay cool on the BART, while my large red folding fan serves nicely when out dancing.

A few weeks ago, I heard of a new shoe company, based in San Francisco, called “Allbirds” with a pretty simple product; shoes.

Inside a Nike sweatshop.

While Chuck Taylor has served me well, I was saddened to hear of Nike’s acquisition of Converse, which means Converse products are now manufactured under the same sweatshop conditions as a Nike factories. Thus, I began the hunt for the new ‘perfect’ shoe.

When you live in a city like San Francisco, the right pair of shoes can make or break your day. Residents do a lot of walking here. It’s important to find a pair of shoes that’s both functional and stylish.

Allbirds provides an elegant solution to the hunt for the perfect shoe, with its’ line of Wool Runner / Wool Lounger shoes.

Besides being stylish, here are some of my favorite parts about owning a pair of Allbirds:

  • Ethically manufactured. No sweatshops involved during the manufacturing process.
  • Sustainably sourced. Manufactured from merino wool, from farms that follow strict standards for the care and well-being of its animals.
  • Comfortable. This is where Allbirds shine; they’re the most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve ever owned. It feels like you’re walking on a wool cloud.
  • Machine-washable. Dirty shoes? Throw em’ in the washer and let them air dry.
  • Durable. These shoes have withstood hard city usage and have maintained their shape and build integrity.
  • Affordable – at $95, Allbirds might not be the cheapest shoe in your closet. However, they’re cross-functional, which means one pair can easily replace your running shoes, casual shoes, and even slippers.

I’ve been on the hunt for the ‘perfect’ pair of shoes for several years, and have tried many different brands and styles. When I put on my first pair of Allbirds, I had a feeling that my quest for the perfect shoe was over.

Several weeks later, I’m still thrilled every time I lace up my Allbirds. They’ve made my morning walk commute much more comfortable, and it’s nice to know that picking out my shoes in the morning has been reduced to a single choice.

If you haven’t purchased a pair of Allbirds yet, give it a shot! You’ll be so very glad you did.

Allbirds didn’t pay me to write this blog (although I’d be thrilled with free shoes).
